Richard Crosby, DDS has long practiced on the cutting-edge of dentistry. Now he is taking the science of dentistry to exciting new levels with the innovative cutting edge technology of CEREC 3D.
 CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. With it, Dr. Crosby can quickly and economically restore damaged teeth using a durable ceramic material that matches the color of natural teeth, produces a natural chewing surface and blocks bacteria. CEREC also allows Dr. Crosby to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of the repaired tooth.
Since Dr. Crosby uses CEREC, patients are in and out of the office in one visit with a permanent restoration. Multiple visits have been eliminated with fewer injections administered, less drilling needed and more of the natural tooth surface preserved.
To further understand the instrument and its use, here’s a walk through the process. First, the damaged tooth is prepared by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface. Using a special camera, a picture is taken of the tooth. Dr. Crosby works from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth. Computer Aided Design technology assists in the design of the restoration from the optical impression. Then Computer Aided Manufacturing creates an extremely precise restoration. A high-speed diamond bur grinds the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, the newly milled restoration is bonded to the tooth using a state-of-the-art adhesive.
